The Yandex Initiative for Machine Learning will introduce a cluster of courses within the framework of the BSc Program in Computer Science. Courses will focus on machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision and robotics. Program graduates will be equipped with the expertise to immediately impact the IT sector.
Check Point Institute for Information Security
Information systems have become a pillar of our lives, both as individuals and as a community. The continued secure operation of these systems is thus paramount for the stability and well being of our global society. Indeed, the need to maintain the security of information is playing a central role in the shaping of our future.
Keeping information systems secure is a complex and multi-faceted task. It involves a range of disciplines including the mathematical foundations of computational hardness, the theory of program analysis, the design of cryptographic algorithms and protocols, operating system and network design, computing hardware design, Human interface design, as well as Sociology, Economy, and Law.
The Check Point Institute for Information Security aims to promoting research in all aspects of information and computing security. This includes both inter-disciplinary research and in-depth research in specific disciplines. The institute highlights collaboration between academia and industry, towards comprehensive and effective research.
The Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics
The Edmond J. Safra Center for Bioinformatics aims to advance the role of Tel Aviv University (TAU) as an international leader in research and education in bioinformatics. Established in 2005, the Center brings together all bioinformatics-related research and teaching activities across campus into one multidisciplinary hub of excellence. More than 180 researchers from 48 research groups spanning Exact Sciences, Life Sciences, Medicine and Engineering collaborate and interact in the Center's activities. It aims to be a leading force in the development of novel drugs, biomedical technologies and computational tools that will improve human health worldwide.
The Center has broad international collaborations including (a) the Koret-University California Berkeley-TAU Initiative in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, (b) a collaboration with the Computational Genomics Summer Institute of University California Los Angeles, (c) a partnership with Harvard University in the Entrepreneurs Salon series, (d) a collaboration with the University California San Francisco on Computational Biology and Drug Discovery. These collaborations have great effect on the quality and impact of the Center's research.
One of the major goals of the Center is to promote excellence in medical bioinformatics research, by fostering collaborations between bioinformatics scientists and physicians. In 2020 the Center, partnering with the Sackler School of Medicine at TAU, provided for the first time seed research grants to support fundamental and translational collaborative research of bioinformatics researchers and clinicians. Similar initiatives are underway with the Cancer Center at Sheba Medical Center, and with Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center. The Center is also collaborating with the new AI and Data Science Center at TAU to establish a Health Data Science Infrastructure Unit on Campus.
The Blavatnik Fund was founded three years ago with the generous contribution of Len Blavatnik. With the opening of the fourth year, the Found continues to support new faculty members, funded by post-doctoral fellowships, doctoral students and graduate students.
The Fund's support enables their impressive achievements in students' academic research by presenting them in leading international journals and conferences.
