The efficient non-sequential intense field double detachment of molecular anions, observed in SF6ˉ, is studied by 3D coincidence imaging of the dissociation products. Disentangling specific final channels provides information about the efficient mechanism that surprisingly produces all possible cationic fragments. Highly repulsive (〖"SF" 〗_"6" ^"+" )* Rydberg states are proposed to explain the observed kinetic energy release and nearly isotropic fragmentation, as well as accounting for the efficient production of atomic and molecular cations at equivalent laser intensities.
