Title: Open Source/Linux evolution

Abstract:

The open source concept has become very popular in recent years, both in academic circles and in the software industry. Many organizations, developers and companies participate in open source projects and in defining/developing open source applications.

This study investigates the historical impacts and the implications on the open source domain, while focusing on a specific use case: The Linux Operating System development project.

In the lecture I will present historical findings showing some of the open source development concepts that were analyzed in the study (e.g.: Linux). Furthermore, we will discuss current open source development model while I offer some new observations.

The talk is based on Oded's PhD thesis, recently approved by Tel Aviv University.
