How to use the SSH applet

The ssh applet was downloaded from appGATE site. Please look at the license (press here) before use. After you read the license, please check that you have permission to run Java in your browser.

In Internet Explorer: Tools → Internet options → Advanced → Microsoft VM → Java...
Using Netscape: Communicator → Tools → Security Info → Java...
(You get permission the first time you run the application)


In order to connect to our system, please issue the following URL in your browser:

For Internet explorer:http://www.cs.tau.ac.il/ssh/ssh-ie.html
For Netscape (Or other Unix browsers):http://www.cs.tau.ac.il/ssh/ssh-ns.html


  1. After connecting to this URL, you should get the following message:


    Which asks you to confirm the file you are about to run. This is a security measure. Press YES.
  2. Then you will get the following screen:


    This message tells you that this hostname is not recognized by your computer. Press YES to accept adding it to your known hosts list.
  3. Next you will see this screen:


    All you need to do is enter your password, unless the default username that is given is not correct and then you will have to press ENTER a few times until you are able to edit the username.

  4. Finally, after login succeeds, you can also copy files between the computer you are using and the host you've just connected to.
    Just press [Ctrl]+{right mouse button} and you will get the following screen:


    Just select File and then SCP File Transfer. To connect to a different computer, you may press [Ctrl]+{right mouse button} and select File → New Terminal (Or Just Ctrl+Shift+N) either before you connect to the first connection or after.
