I will present Haim Gaifman's paper, "Vagueness, tolerance and contextual logic". In this paper, borderline vagueness (the existence of borderline cases) and tolerance (the insensitivity to small changes) are dealt with separately. The analysis of tolerance leads to the proposed framework of contextual logic, which allows to express the context in which a sentence is said (and evaluated). Borderline vagueness is formulated in modal logic, by presenting a basic framework for reducing degrees to modalities.
